PREMIERE AT AGRITECHNICA: BETEK PRESENTS SUPER MATERIAL PROmatrix
At AGRITECHNICA 2025, tungsten carbide tool specialist BETEK will present a newly developed superalloy based on tungsten carbide to the agricultural world.
BETEK has been developing, producing, and distributing premium tungsten carbide tools made in Germany for over four decades. The medium-sized company, headquartered in the Black Forest, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of tungsten carbide-tipped wear tools and develops, tests, and produces numerous BETEK premium tungsten carbide grades itself. In addition, BETEK has integrated a new production process that enables the recycling of used tungsten carbides. BETEK thus accompanies the entire manufacturing cycle and relies on its own manufacturing expertise in crucial steps.
The innovative material PROmatrix was developed as part of a development project. The aim was to launch a new generation of tungsten carbides onto the market that would offer a significant advantage in terms of wear resistance compared to conventional tungsten carbide grades. The solution was to add special additives to the tungsten carbide binder. This increases the heat resistance and mechanical stability of the tungsten carbide. PROmatrix thus achieves a clearly visible wear advantage.
During an extensive testing phase in various construction industry applications, the new tungsten carbide achieved an average service life that was 1.5 times longer. In extreme conditions, the new material achieved up to twice the service life compared to conventional tungsten carbide grades. There are also a variety of tools and corresponding applications for PROmatrix in the agricultural sector, such as cultivator points. The wear of tungsten carbide points affects both the operating costs and the quality of soil cultivation. In tests, the new agricultural tools with PROmatrix achieved 1.25 times the service life of conventional tungsten carbide tools, depending on soil conditions. This means that fewer tool changes are necessary, the energy requirement of the tractor is reduced, and the quality of work remains consistently good for a long time.
In cooperation with its development partner HORSCH, BETEK has entered the PROmatrix material for this year's AGRITECHNICA Innovation Award.
